TCSD December Club Race

Presented by San Diego Running Institute

December 13, 2008 7 AM

Fiesta Island

The December Club Race will take place on December 13th on Fiesta Island at 7am. This month's race will have a 800 m swim, a 12.5 mile bike ride around the main loop of the island, and a 4 mile run to finish things off. Check out the map links below for more info.

Race sponsor San Diego Running Institute will be supplying prizes for some racers, some small items for sale, as well as advice on running shoes and techniques. Check them out online at www.sdri.net or at their store in Mission Gorge.

Transition:  The transition area will be at the juncture of the big and small loops of the island, right outside of the Boy Scout Camp and Aquatic Center. There is no parking in the Boy Scout lot or on the access road just past it. Watch for No Parking signs. Traffic control will not be letting cars on the island after 6:30. You may park in the dirt lot at the entrance or on E. Mission Bay Dr. and then ride your bike to the transition area. Once on the island with your vehicle you will not be able to leave until 9AM.

Course Details (click on Swim, Bike, or Run for a map):

Swim: The swim will be approximately 800 meters long. Water temps in Mission typically hover around 60 degrees +/- a few so plan accordingly. Wetsuits are recommended.

Bike: Flat and fast 12.5 miles around the main loop of the island, completing 5 laps before returning to transition.

Run: The run will be two 2-mile laps of the northern loop of Fiesta, totaling 4 miles.

Pre-race instructions and the course talk will begin at 6:50 AM. Sign-ins will begin at 6:00. We need volunteers to help with set-up, sign-ins, and traffic flow. Please email Cory if you  are able to help and earn some Grand Prix Points. Volunteers will need to be on the island by about 5:30.

Register:  To register for this and every other club race, visit the member's registration area. This race is open to everyone, but TCSD members get priority if we reach the maximum number of 150 racers. Sign up early to lock in your spot. This race is chip times so remember to bring your timing chip.

Directions: To get to Fiesta Island from the 5 fwy, exit Sea World Dr., make a right on to Sea World, then your first right onto E. Mission Bay Dr. The island entrance is your first left. Drive about 3/4 mile on the island until you see a bunch of triathlete people doing triathlete things near the Boy Scout camp.
