UC San Diego Extension is offering a new course Sports in Society as part of a series of courses in the area of Sports and Recreation Management. This course will be conducted by Ironman World Champion Scott Tinley, who is not only an expert athlete, but has studied in depth the sociological implications of sports on community.
Scott has designed the course to communicate the emphasis of sports in our culture and its impact on politics, community action, and cultural identification in our society.
Scott will also communicate the connection of action and theory of sports and how sports and recreation developed into one of the major segments of our leisure time, as he helps students develop an ethical framework for planning a career in sports.
This will be a small, intimate class, and those students who enroll early will have an opportunity to give their input on what they would like to get out of the class.
