Junior Race

The Triathlon Club of San Diego, in association with TriJuniors, will conduct it's first junior draft-legal triathlon on May 22, 2010. The event will be open to all TCSD junior triathletes who would like to get experience in a draft-legal race. This will be considered a tune-up event for the USAT National Championship race on August 14, 2010 in San Diego.

The objective of the format is to transition athletes from entry-level youth, or “kids”, triathlons, into draft-legal youth elite and junior elite competition. This enables more young athletes to become competent in the draft-legal race format before committing to national-level events.

The race will consist of a 300m swim (2 loops with a short beach run), followed by a 12km bike (3 laps), and 3.2km run on TCSD's normal Fiesta Island course (see map below). Start time will be 6:45am - all racers will be encouraged to arrive no later than 6:00am. It is the responsibility of each racer to be prepared for riding in a pack. As such, the following bike rules will be in place:

  • Wheels must have at least 12 spokes
  • Regular, double-triangle frame, (Standard Road Bike)
  • Standard drop handle bars, (NO AEROBARS)
  • Bar ends must have plugs

Bikes will be checked to make sure they are legal before the race. If the racer is under 18, a waiver MUST be signed race morning by a parent or legal guardian. All racers must be members of the Triathlon Club of San Diego. Youth membership is $30 per year.
