:: Pine Valley ::

Location:  East County
Climb Elevation:  3,069 ft
The traditional Pine Valley Duathlon race course. Start in Pine Valley. Climb 2500' in the first 8+ miles before reaching Mt. Laguna. Descend to the transition area at Kwimee Point. The run heads uphill, changes to asphalt, turn around at the "STOP" sign. Descend the same route or make it a loop by returning via Hwy 79.

:: Highway 56 Bike Path ::
Mileage:  12.0
Location:  Central San Diego
Climb Elevation:  1,102 ft
The beginners bike route and also a club duathlon race course. Gradual 6 mile climb going east with a easy descent on the return. Watch for a couple of sharp and potentially wet slippery turns in the first and last mile. Also some cross traffic at intersections. Do not forget to say hi to the mules or are they donkeys?

:: Great Western/Laguna ::

Climb Elevation:  11,572 ft
The Great Western with the Laguna Mountain loop. This route consists of numerous hills and steep climbs for the first 50 miles followed by a 51 mile descent. Reverse the direction for a slightly easier and more gradual climb. Stop at the Jamul country store, Pine Valley or Laguna Mountain for a break.

Climb Elevation:  6,485 ft
Start on Northern most part of UCSD campus. Begin a 10 mile and 1200'+ climb when you reach Highway 67 followed by a 1000' descent as you return to Highway 15. Rolling hills take you back to the coast and the final 500' ascent of Torrey Pines Grade. Thanks to Steve Diggs for supplying this bike route.

:: Bob Babbitt's Back Road Boogey ::

Location:  East County
Climb Elevation:  4,562 ft
Start on in Downtown Pine Valley. Descend some 18 miles to Highway 94 before looping back uphill to the start point. Finish cycling, go for a run, drive over to the old Campo train, buy a beer, sit back and relax while checking out what the rest of California used to look like 100 years ago.

:: Laguna Mountain ::

Start at the Park & Ride at the I-8 and SR79 Junction, through Pine Valley to the Sunrise Highway and up to the Mt. Laguna Summit, a 2500' climb over 10 miles. From the summit onward thru Lake Cuyamaca it is a long descent back down to the starting point. Food/drink at Mt. Laguna and Lake Cuyamaca.

:: Penasquitos Mountain Bike ::

This is the December 2004 Duathlon Bike course. It is also a shortened version of the Wednesday evening bike ride. The first 5.3 miles are on fire roads followed by a mix of single track (4.2 miles) and fire roads (1 mile). The return route is 4.2 miles of fire road.

This is the route for the club race from Glorietta Bay down the strand to Imperial Beach and back again. Use the bike path when traveling South and use the road shoulder when traveling north. Starting point is Glorietta Bay parking lot.

A tour of La Costa and Carlsbad with some flats, uphills and downhills. The start point at South Carlsbad State Beach is only accessible from the north (southbound 101). Exit I-5 at Poinsettia, then south on 101.

This course begins with a 370 ft climb up Point Loma and a second 300 ft climb to Hillcrest. Bathrooms located at the Rosecrans cemetary at mile 8.0 (east side) and at Robb Field (mile 15.5). A fee is required to access Cabrillo Monument and the tidepools.

A favorite path for cyclists on weekends. This coastal route starts at the Del Mar Starbucks. Turnaround point is the Oceanside Harbor. Store and bathroom at Oceanside Harbor.

Route consists of numerous hills and a few steep leg burning climbs. Minimal traffic. Great Practice for Wildflower. Final five miles is downhill. The Lyons Valley Country Store is located just past mile 20. Park along Sloan Canyon Road.

The "Love/Hate" ride starts with 10 miles of moderate hills (the Love) followed by a 2000 ft climb in 8+ miles (the Hate). The out-and-back ride visits Otay Lake, Jamul, and Deerhorn Valley. Take a break at the Lyons Valley Trading Post. Narrow shoulders on some roads but limited traffic.

The 500 ft climb up to Lake Wohlford serves as a warmup for the brutal 12 mile 2500+ ft climb up Palomar Mountain. Store located at mile 20 and a store and restaurant on top of Palomar. Note there is no water available at Lake Wohlford except at the local store.
