BOWS (Beginners’ Open Water Swim)

BOWS is THE place to start making the transition from the pool to the joys of open water swimming. The calm waters of Bonita Cove (Mission Bay) are the perfect place for you to learn about The Big Salty Pool, how to keep safe, and how to be a true triathlete. Anyone is welcome to attend, whether you’re brand new to open water swimming or a seasoned swimmer looking to get some distance done. We ask you to: be able to swim at least 100m in the pool without stopping, have a brightly coloured swim cap (we have plenty to use!), and be ready to learn how truly energising open water swimming can be. We teach principles of endurance swimming to support you in being a triathlete, not just a swimmer/cyclist/runner. Folks usually start gathering at about 5:45, and we’re toes in the water promptly at 6:00pm. PLEASE NOTE: BOWS joins up with the rest of TCSD for the monthly aquathlons. If you see an aquathlon on the schedule, there will be no formal session at Bonita Cove, but please join us for a no-drop Party Wave at the event.

Bonita Cove Park (Mission Bay), 1100 W Mission Bay Dr. We meet on the grass close to the lifeguard tower on the cove’s northwest shore (not far from the set of restrooms closest to the roller coaster).
